Only A Matter Of Time I Suppose
We found out almost two years to the day that Ben Affleck was stepping down from directing The Batman. Today, we learned that he was leaving the role for good. The writing was on the wall but we still needed confirmation. Now that we have it, it still pains me to see him leave. He truly was the best interpretation of Batman on screen for me.
What pains me the most though, is not seeing his true version in Justice League. It will be the stain on the legacy of Warner Bros. unless shown the real film. Sure, they’ll have a new Batman, but not knowing how the character was supposed to end up won’t be a good look. I’ll express my thoughts in more detail in another article.
The New Film
Matt Reeves recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and said:
“It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”
Now we have a release date: June 25th, 2021. The more information we hear, the more it will distance itself from the DC Extended Universe. Only time will tell.
