DC Universe’s ‘Titans’ To Be Partially Set in Detroit?

Details for the upcoming DC Universe streaming service original series Titans have been coming to light. With the new trailer arriving last week, we got our first look at what’s to come on the show. But now it’s looking like details surrounding the setting of the show may have been revealed last weekend at San Diego Comic Con.

I had a chance to attend the convention and scope out the interactive DC Universe Experience for fans. Located across the street from the convention center in the Gaslamp Quarter, the experience contained six activation rooms, each corresponding to a comic or upcoming show.

The Titans experience was set up as Dick Grayson’s loft. Interestingly, while waiting in line, I spotted the sign below, which gives some background on the show and what to expect while in the loft.

The sign indicates that Grayson is being set up at a Detroit Police Department detective. In the comics, we’ve seen the character operate in Gotham and Bludhaven and the Titans team itself in New York City and San Francisco, but Detroit is new ground. Once inside the loft, several papers gave further confirmation about Grayson’s work in Detroit.

It’s unclear whether the entirety of the season will be set in Detroit or if Grayson will only initially be working in the city and his investigation alongside Rachel Roth will take them elsewhere. Why Detroit? My best guess is the influence of writer and producer Geoff Johns. A southeast Michigan native, the city is often reflected in his work. During his run on The Flash in the early 2000’s, Keystone City began to resemble Detroit as a car town. Even recently, he created Green Lantern Simon Baz who hails from Dearborn, Michigan.

Are you excited to see the Motor City as the backdrop for Titans? As another resident from southeast Detroit, I can’t wait to see how the series unfolds in this dynamic city!

Titans will arrive this fall on the DC Universe streaming service and stars Brendan Thwaites as Dick Grayson/Robin, Teagan Croft as Rachel Roth/Raven, Anna Diop as Koriand’r/Starfire, and Ryan Potter as Garfield Logan/Beast Boy.
