Aquaman’: Director James Wan Explains Why There Hasn’t Been a Trailer Yet

With Aquaman hitting the big screen at the end of the year, fans have started to question when the first trailer for the film would be released. Rumours had surfaced online over the weekend that the trailer would drop at WonderCon, but fans where left disappointed when it never happened.

Director James Wan took to Twitter to reveal that despite the mumblings online, that was never in the plan and explained exactly why:

“I know it seems like nothing much is brewing above the surface, but I can assure you, we’re working nonstop under the waves (3/3) (Ps: And yes, I plan to use oceanic puns/references every chance I get.)”

We are still nine months out from Aquaman’s release, so it’s not surprising there’s been no footage yet since marketing normally begins about six months prior to a film’s release, it’s rare if you get a trailer before then.

James Wan’s decision not to put anything out until he feels its right is something we fully support, the film is technically challenging and we want it to look visually stunning when the first wave of trailers and TV spots hit.

The film stars Jason Momoa (“Justice League,” “Conan the Barbarian”) as Aquaman; Amber Heard (“Justice League,” “Magic Mike XXL”) as Mera; Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (“Platoon,” “Spider-Man 2”) as Vulko; Temuera Morrison (“Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones,” “Green Lantern”) as Tom Curry; Dolph Lundgren (“The Expendables” films) as Nereus; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (upcoming “Baywatch,” Netflix’s “The Get Down”) as Black Manta; with Patrick Wilson (“The Conjuring” films, “Watchmen”) as Orm/Ocean Master; and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman (“The Hours,” “Lion”) as Atlanna.
