Jeremy Irons To Star In The Pilot For HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ TV Series

The Watchmen TV series has been quietly picking up steam behind the scenes. We don’t have a release date for the series at this time because its in the early development stages.

As with any new TV series a pilot has to be shot first and that’s the stage where this Watchmen series is at. Today it was announced that the already star studded cast will be joined by Jeremy Irons who is set to play a major role in the pilot. Comic fans are most familiar with Irons work as Alfred Pennyworth in the DC extended universe.

This shouldn’t impact his role as Alfred since this series is completely separate from the cinematic universe. We don’t know what character Irons’ will play yet but we do have one piece of interesting detail about his role in the pilot. Deadline stated that Irons’ is set to play an “aging and imperious Lord of a British Manor”.

What we know about the series so far is that it isn’t going to follow the iconic graphic novel. The creator of the show Damon Lindelof has stated he has “no desire to adapt” Alan Moore’s original work.

The Watchmen TV series will be set in the same universe as the comic and will be set 30 years after the events of Zack Snyder’s Watchmen movie. I find this an interesting direction to take the series. Clearly we can see they are trying to keep the same elements from the comic and movie which made people fall in love with this world but they’re also trying something new with this series at the same time.

Will the die hard fans love it? I’m not sure, but then again we are in the very early stages at the moment. There’s still a chance that this series doesn’t get picked up after all. One thing I know is that HBO usually does provide great content. If the series does get picked up that can only be a good sign for us.

Jeremy Irons is set to join the likes of Jamal Akakpo, Joshua Allen, Jamel Chambers, Adelaide Clemens and many more for the Watchmen pilot.
